Brett de Hoedt Mayor of Hootville
Before founding Hootville Brett worked as a print journalist, talk radio host and publicist with media organisations including Truth, New Idea, Channel 7, ABC-TV, radio 3AK, The Sunday Age, The Melbourne Weekly and ABC local radio Perth. He has also made video documentaries, reviewed restaurants and written game show questions.
His first public relations campaign was running table top dancer Yasmin Cotton for the parliamentary seat of Kooyong. She polled four out of seven candidates.
He has interviewed most major players in politics, business and entertainment. He understands what the media wants and what it takes to gain coverage.
He reported from New York on the first anniversary of the September 11 attacks. He was the only talk radio show to broadcast continuous and live in the aftermath of the first Bali bombing. He was hung up on by Senator Richard Alston (then Minister for Communications) and was the first journalist to interview Democrat Senator Andrew Bartlett about his ... unparliamentary behaviour.
He is regularly engaged to act as MC, chair or speaker at awards, launches and conferences both within the non-profit sector and beyond.
Brett regularly addresses communications students; is involved in a mentoring scheme and volunteers his time to the Future Environment Leader’s Scheme which selects aspiring green university students and readies them for the pragmatic world in which environmental decisions are made.
He has volunteered his dubious construction skills to building projects in Sri Lanka, Ghana with Habitat for Humanity and in India for Kaigal Education and Environment Program.
He is a true believer in the NFP issues of his clients and the power of communications to create change.
